Stelarc’s Walking Head Robot

July 10th, 2008 by Conner Flynn

Heads up!
It’s always nice when our killer can look us in the face. Even when it crawls on six legs. Measuring 2m across this six-legged walking robot will make heads turn. The WALKING HEAD is just that. Enclosed inside the LCD-generated virtual human head is an intelligent chip.

It’s also got a scanning ultra-sound sensor that builds bridges between AI and extra-sensory perception. It can detect any human presence around it. It even welcomes you with a display of awesome gyrations. The 4m wide platform that it performs on is no impediment. As it reaches the edge, it backs off and goes in a different direction. The pneumatically actuated robot is expected to evolve even further and transform into a virtual system with a wide repertoire of facial expressions, vocalizations, tilts, etc. It may even combine motion icons from its menu.
