ALCNON: The Dancing Japanese Anime-Inspired Humanoid Bot

November 12th, 2008 by Conner Flynn

ALCNON…Sounds like a substance abuse meeting. It is in fact, what else? An awesome humanoid robot that’s obviously styled after Japanese Anime. He has the height of a small child and a creepy cyclops eye, two pincers for hands. That stuff already means he has attitude. In fact, ALCNON made a big splash at the recent ROBO-ONE robot battle in Japan.

He showed off his ability to dance and stand up from a laying position. One thing is for sure, he isn’t a wuss, he’s got all the attributes that warrior bots need. Check out a video of ALCNON defeating a bot less then half his size below.

Robot Uses Master/Slave Remote Control Suit

September 2nd, 2008 by Conner Flynn

Naoki Maru likes to practice the ancient Japanese art of bushido with robots, not people. King Kizer, the Maru family robot, has dominated the Robo-One tourney for three years, and has collected $50,000 in prize money. Maru is a factory engineer by day, by night he strives to perfect a way to make Kizer even tougher using a technique from anime: A harness that captures human movements and translates them into robotic attacks. He’s a man who is serious about robot ass kicking. May your bots never go up against his.

King Kizer is only 16 inches tall with a lightweight aluminum frame, rapid servomotors and sensors that help it keep it’s balance and detect enemies. The harness creates a master-slave connection. When the boy moves his upper body during combat, the motions are transmitted via a Bluetooth link to Kizer, which reproduces them.
