Minus the string. It’s a robot kit from Japan that lets you build your own ball shaped robot that can pull off all sorts of wild and crazy moves as it gyrates around your floor. The real fun starts when you set the Tornader into one of its insane spin modes. It’s kind of like the ultimate bot breakdancing.
Each Tornader ships with a multi-channel infrared remote, which lets you operate up to four of them in the same room at the same time for complete robotic dance-offs. And each robot has a customizeable space on the side where you can place colorful printed patterns that will show off when the Tornader hits maximum speed.
It should be awesome when people start adding lights and crazy sound effects.
It’s only available in Japan, but Japan Trend Shop has started to sell them worldwide for $121.
Why buy a Transformers toy, when you can build your own? That’s what this engineer did. The end result is completely awesome and the best actual transforming toy ever.
It’s called the Humvee Biloid. A fully transformable robot that comes equipped with a camera for surveillance tasks. Just push of a button and it will go from a car into robot mode. Unfortunately, it’s just a prototype..for now.
Damn, I can’t wait for the robot toys of the future. Hit the link for an awesome video that unfortunately will not embed here.
Ultraman will bitch-slap any and all monsters in hand-to-hand combat. Plus he flies. How awesome is this remote-controlled mini Ultraman figure that can fly?
The Charabot Ultraman will arrive in Japan next January for $35. You’ll want to import one asap.
Weaponized Remotely Operated Mobile Platform. Created by Chris Rogers, the WROMP appears to be an RC car that’s been outfitted with a camera and a paintball gun, along with some fancy controller. “The operator can ‘drive’ the vehicle and fire the weapon although it is out of visual range. WROMP can also be used for reconnaissance and bomb investigation and remote detonation.” The bot exhibits remote surveillance, with the whole thing being operated from a distance using an audio/visual system linked to a VR headset. So badass. This little robot was in my imagination since I was a kid, and now it’s real. The paintball gun could potentially be replaced with something more dangerous like…I don’t know…an actual gun, maybe. So if you have enemies who like robots, please be extra cautious when you hear faint whirring noises.

We told you about the cool Transforming RCRC car earlier this month. Here’s a video of the vehicle/bot in action. Makes you look forward to driving a real Transformer one day on the road.
These toy robot kits from Japan are devoted to beating the crap out of each other. Tamiya’s Robocraft boxing robots come in a kit that’s easy to assemble. Each robot boxer is operated using a wired remote, which lets you control two gearboxes which drive the robot’s punches and movements. The same gears drive the punching action and forward/backward movement, which makes them wobbly and unpredictable. That means awesomeness.
You can even switch between two punch types: upper-cut and straight jab. This ain’t your granddad’s Rock ‘Em Sock ‘Em robots. Tamiya USA sells individual blue boxing ‘bots, along with a little punching bag for $37. Pairs come in colorful pink and yellow for $67. Check out 2 videos below. Read the rest of this entry »
Available this December from Bandai Japan, this remote-controlled Mechagodzilla robot is mighty impressive on the eyes. It stands nearly 20-inches tall (1/100th scale), and is faithful to the version of the robo-raptor from 1974’s Gojira tai Mekagojira (Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla).
Mechagodzilla features light up eyes, nostrils and mouth, and the spinning rocket-launcher fingers and toes also have flashing LEDs. It can even spin it’s head in a complete circle as he screeches sound effects from the movie. Video below. Read the rest of this entry »
I wish I could say that I’ve never met a bot I didn’t like, but I’ve actually met several I don’t like. Thankfully Tri-Bot is one awesome robot, with a ton of nice features packed into his compact form. You’ve all seen him in various videos and pictures, but I have to say, this bot is twice as awesome in person. He’s a wise-cracking and highly energetic bot, which might make him seem like he would be annoying, but trust me, his personality will win you over as soon as you take him out of the box. Read on for the full experience. Read the rest of this entry »
This one combines two awesome things in one. RC vehicles and robots. Make that 3 as it also transforms. It’s from Hammacher Schlemmer and converts from a 13-inch tall two-wheeled robot to a four-wheeled sports car/truck. A four hour charge will give you enough juice for 30 minutes of play with the internal rechargeable battery. The controller has a 100-foot range and requires just one 9v. Go into upright mode by holding down two of the joysticks, and the robot can dance and spin with flashing LED lights. $89.95 and it’s available now.
What could be better then having a droid ready to roll on your watch? The R2-D2 Whizzwatch while not heavy on style, lets you control a miniature version of R2-D2 with a special wristwatch IR transmitter. R2 is attached to it’s strap.
Just unclip the little droid, put him on your desk and watch him go. The watch supposedly has a variety of digital readouts, and you can switch between 12/24 hour displays. It costs about $36. My concern with this watch would be running into some dude with a Jawa watch. If the two should fight, your little droid might end up in a Jawa sandcrawler. That would not end well for R2.
