The R2-D2 Mailbox
January 24th, 2010
You gotta really like droids to buy yourself an Astromech mailbox. And now you can. Bigbadtoystore.com is offering this R2-D2 mail box for pre-order on the site for $38.99. A collector’s edition will cost you $2.00 more.
It should at least make your mailman / woman smile as they shove junk mail in it. They don’t say how big it is, but it is obviously on the small side. Who is getting one?

Artoo is a pretty useful droid. He’ll throw you a lightsaber, play you a hologram message, he even has a periscope should he take a swim in the Dagobah swamps. So it’s only fitting that a hand-painted 1:6 scale replica of R2-D2 comes with 8 accessories.
It just ain’t Christmas until you’ve got some
R2 may have a dome instead of a head, but that doesn’t stop him from becoming a bobble head. You gotta keep that merchandising going after all, you can’t let things like the lack of a head stop you. Who knows what exactly bobbles on this thing, but it’s 7 inches tall and only $12.99 and up for pre-order now.
Etsy seller frosti makes geek apparel. This is her R2-D2 hoodie with R2-D2 head/hood. It will cost you $92 and some street cred in your neighborhood. It’s only available in XL. If you are an XL this is a great way to pretend that you are droid. Those people laughing at you? Just pretend they are Jawas.
This is an amazingly tiny RC R2-D2. A 1:18 Scale model, measuring just 2.36″/6cm tall. It has three Solarbotics’ GM15 pager gearmotors. It gives new meaning to the term Micro-Machines. Now who is up to the challenge of building a still smaller one?
Halloween is upon us. That means that it’s time for Pumpkin carving. Many of you carve robots into your Pumpkins, rightly so. There’s nothing scarier than robots. Below are 10 awesome robot Pumpkins that we like. Scary as they look, they will all rot on the porch, so no worries.
According to Robert, “I found this scrap metal homebuilt steampunk chubby R2D2 in Tokyo’s Nakano Broadway. Pretty good welding!”
