A K9 Website Mystery

November 18th, 2008 by Conner Flynn

Looks like producers of the new Doctor Who spin-off have shut down their official production site. The show’s website went live last week, giving fans a chance to see behind the scenes of the show before it shoots… and then it went offline a few days later. So what happened?

British magazine SFX visited the site when it went live. Here’s what they found:

Although light on pictures of the metal mutt himself – and even lighter on details about the show – there are loads of photos of locations and sets being built. Although one location is identified as Sherwood Forest, we don’t reckon this means there’s a Robin Hood episode, because there is, in fact a Sherwood Forest in Australia as well. No sign of any gravel pits, but it looks like there might be a story set in natural history museum… Seems like this show may be a bigger deal than we were all expecting. But the design of K9 - who’ll allegedly be realised in CGi – still looks a bit naff, if you ask us.

The site is password protected at the moment. As well as the sentence “Information on this site is available only to authorised members of the production.” So was the initial launch of the site a mistake? Or were they afraid of some backlash from fans? Who knows.

Doctor Who Dalek Illuminating Wall Clock

October 21st, 2008 by Conner Flynn

At last you can trust a Dalek…To tell you what time it is anyway. It’s like having a plaque on your wall that says, “I’m a virgin. I buy stuff.”

I kid. Daleks are awesome. What other robot can show people an x-ray of your innards while vaporizing you?

Dalek Shoes Exterminate With Extreme Funk

September 29th, 2008 by Conner Flynn

Any fan of Doctor Who is going to want a pair of these awesome Dalek shoes. They even have an electric colored EXTERMINATE on each heel. Handpainted Daleks on shoes screams geek.

They were created by kelly_bear, who originally wanted a Dalek on one shoe and a Cyberman on the other shoe, so they could reenact an epic battle. Turns out it was too hard to paint a Cyberman , so she decided that both should have a Dalek. Awesome stuff.

Huge Ass Robot Spider In Liverpool, England

September 4th, 2008 by Conner Flynn

This badass robot spider was in the streets of Liverpool. So what’s going on? A few months ago a full-sized UFO was in Potters Fields Park. Supposedly the spider is part of La Machine. I’m guessing it might have something to do with the 2009 seasons of either Doctor Who or Torchwood. Think about it, those are probably the only two sci-fi shows in the UK that have a decent budget. That’s a damn scary looking robo-spider!

Talking Dalek Alarm Clock

August 28th, 2008 by Conner Flynn

If you’re a Timelord, a talking Dalek will wake you up. Because when a Dalek talks, people die. Somehow they’ve survived the time-war and are in alarm clock form now. It’s officially licenced by the BBC and shouts things like “Exterminate”, “You would make a good Dalek” or “You are an enemy of the Daleks, you must be destroyed” to wake you up in the morning all bright and cheery. Other features are flashing white ears, a flashing blue eye stalk, and blue LED lights on the bottom. Turn off the alarm by pushing it’s head. It will cost you about $29.

Dalek Style Astromech R2-D2 Droid Is Just Wrong

August 12th, 2008 by Conner Flynn

I was looking for some robots on ebay the other night when I came across this monstrosity. Some guy cross-bred a dalek with an R2 Astromech droid and the results are somewhat comical and somewhat fugly. How’d you like to have this thing behind you in your X-wing while careening down a trench in the Death Star?

“If you blow up the Death Star I will exterminate you.”

Of course if Daleks and R2 units co-existed in the same body, the Jawas never would have caught R2 in the desert. Instead, we would have seen a pile of dead little bodies.

Steampunk Dalek Has Wheels, Still Hates Stairs

July 11th, 2008 by Conner Flynn

Steampunk dalek
The tardis is flying out of out control. It was driven off course by an unknown force. Finally it lands. Ah, 19th century London. As you exit the door, you’re pleased to see that it all looks about right…Until you see one of these. Then another. And another. Something is very wrong with this time-line. But even as your brain processes the danger, you can’t help but admire the workmanship. You notice it has wheels, so they won’t be climbing any stairs again. Nothing else to do, but go have your adventure.

Can you believe this thing? It’s a model from Alex Holden. He modded the hell out of a bottle of Dalek bubble bath to create this beauty, adding all kinds of awesome Dalek detail.

Time Harp Instrument Makes Not So Beautiful Doctor Who Music

June 30th, 2008 by Conner Flynn

This robo-instrument has an interesting take on music. It grinds plastic discs against strings, making them resonate and it’s activated by motion sensors. The sound it produces? Let’s just say that it’s almost the sound that Doctor Who’s Tardis makes in flight. Watch the video, you’ll hear it.
