Bipedal Robot Based On Troodon Dinosaur. We’re Dead. Totally Screwed.
December 2nd, 2008

I have seen the face of human death and mass carnage. It walks upright and takes the form of a dinosaur. We are all screwed beyond belief. I’m building a bunker.

Peter Dilworth from MIT’s Leg Lab has constructed this killer bipedal walking robot based on a Troodon dinosaur.

It was for the robot to stand up from a sitting position, to walk and possibly run, go back to walking and stop and then sit down and be stable, and not fall over in any phase. It has proven extremely difficult to make bipedal robots. People assume that flight is hard to do while walking is easy; actually it’s the reverse.

Robotic Spy Plane Inspired By The Pterodactyl
October 6th, 2008

Paleontologist Sankar Chatterjee of Texas Tech University, aeronautical engineer Rick Lind of the University of Florida, and their students Andy Gedeon and Brian Roberts are looking back in time to create the future. A robotic spy plane with next-generation capabilities that’s based on the Pterodactyl.

Mimicking the physical and biological characteristics of the Early Cretaceous Brazilian pterosaur Tapejara wellnhoferi — skin, blood vessels, muscles, tendons, nerves, cranial plate, skeletal structure, and more — the scientists are working to develop a Pterodrone — an unmanned aerial vehicle that not only flies but also walks and sails just like the original.
