Heineken Bot Serves Up The Brew
February 8th, 2010

This Heineken Bot” was made by the folks at Middlesex University and he recently showed up at the Kinetica Art Fair in London. If humans move their hands above its sonar-sensing head, and then place a cup in its holder they will be rewarded with some beer.

After he serves up the good stuff, he continues to wander along a pre-programmed path, waiting on others.

Adult Mario Robotic Rig: Play Mario, Earn Booze
December 8th, 2009

The game is called “Adult Mario.” It was created for Austria’s Roboexotica “cocktailrobotics” hour, and it puts a new spin on the old Mario game, rewarding you with booze and sensory feedback. Forget the feedback, it’s the booze we are interested in.

For example, running around gets you a fan gently blowing in your face, but when you break blocks, vanquishing enemies and hit that the end-of-the-level flag pole, you get rum and coke. Only soda in the video above though.

SOBEaR The Robot Panda Bartender
May 11th, 2009

SOBEaR v02 :: the responsible robot bartender from j saavedra on Vimeo.

We’ve seen plenty of robot bartenders in the past, but none as adorable as SOBEaR. I’m pretty sure I’ve seen this bartender before once or twice myself, when the pink elephants appeared.

It’s a “robot friend for anyone who does not know their own limits, or has problems controlling themselves,”. In other words, this cute little bot dispenses drinks based on the user’s blood-alcohol level. The idea is that you breathe into his face, and he pours the right ratio of alcohol into your glass. This panda will cut you off. Bastard.

Roboexotica Is All About Booze & Bots
February 21st, 2009

In Vienna, Austria, they’ve combined two awesome things. Booze and robots. That’s the premise behind the Roboexotica festival in Vienna, Austria.

The video features some pretty freaky goings on. It’s exactly the kind of stuff that you would think happens when you combine beer with DIY robotics. Therefore it’s slightly unsafe for work. Maybe. Then again, maybe you should be working in a setting that is more open to such things as alcohol coming out of a fake penis and giant robots telling you to suck it.

Factory Robot Tries It’s Hand At Bartending
October 29th, 2008

Beer pouring robot at TMCO open house from beerorkid on Vimeo.
TMCO is a manufacturer of metal products in Lincoln, Nebraska. Not the first place that comes to mind hen you think robotics. But here is one of its factory robots dressed up in a shirt and tie and taught to man a set of beer taps. It even asks for tips afterwards. Probably a new robot strategy where they are trying to kill our ecomony one tip at a time.

Pownce Powered Beer Pouring Robot
October 22nd, 2008

The craziest application built for Pownce yet? This my friends is a robot that pours beer when sent a Pownce message! It may be the best thing ever. All it takes is a quick post from your iPhone and the robot pours a nice cold beer. The Lego Mindstorms robot was created by Matt Reid for Barcamp Nashville. Sweet!
