One robot out of Spain can identify a song when you hum it, whistle it, strum it on a guitar, or play it on the piano. It will then classify the tune according to musical style and suggest similar songs you might like. Think of it as a robot iTunes. It can even determine whether a singer is male or female.

The robot looks like it’s a Lego Mindstorms NXT and it’s just one of several musically inclined bots being created at the University of Malaga that will make and manage musical content. The Malaga researchers have also developed a system that uses augmented reality to create a virtual piano keyboard, which can also be applied to the bars of a xylophone.
