Skiing is as much an art as it is a science. Advanced skiers know how to turn effectively, but the exact physical mechanisms involved are still a mystery. There is no complete set of objective criteria to define things like joint motions, posture, and all the other motions that go into making the turn.
So in order to understand it, researchers have built a ski robot that can simulate the movements of professional skiers, allowing for direct measurements of all of the variables. How this will help I have no idea, because humans make those moves on instinct. Let’s call it what it is. An excuse to make an awesomely creepy bot with no top half.
