Japan’s Swumanoid swimming robot keeps making breakthroughs. It won’t be long before it is even out-swimming Olympians, but it still has a ways to go. The Tokyo Institute of Technology’s humanoid swimming robot can perform a freestyle crawl at 0.64 meters per second. Oh and it can also do the backstroke and butterfly. I’m human and I can’t do that.
Even though they would love to send this guy out to save people in the oceans like a robotic Aquaman, a more practical use would be for analyzing how people swim in order to make them swim better. It has a long way to go, but this robot has a ton of potential. Maybe it will help to train some athletes for some future Olympic games.
