Tactile Sensor Gives Robots An Amazing Sense Of Touch

Researchers from USC Viterbi School of Engineering started a company in 2008 called SynTouch. This company is making an amazing sensor called BioTac that actually puts feeling into a prosthetic finger. BioTac can identify randomly selected materials with a 95% accuracy rate. That is much better then we humans are capable of.
A “fingerprint” on the outside helps the sensor identify vibrations from different materials. BioTac is also filled withed a conductive liquid that helps with detecting objects. Even the mechanism is the same as humans, with a ‘bone-like core’ at the middle of it all. Read more at the link below.
