There are plenty of robots that are able to avoid or overcome obstacles, but not many can use obstacles to their advantage. The HRP-2 robot built by researchers at Japan’s National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology can do just that.
The robot is able to detect objects around it and figure out how they can be used to help it with a specific task. For instance, leaning on a table to help balance while kicking a ball. The result is a robot that behaves like an elderly person. Minus the complaining about the price of bread and how they don’t make things like they used to.
