Graffiti Tagging Robots Are Here

Robotagger: GML + ABB4400 from Golan Levin on Vimeo.
Graffiti tagging robots will be the vandals of a post-apocalyptic world. We didn’t see that one coming, but there ya go.
In fact the week of January 4th, 2010 was designated GML Week celebrating Graffiti Markup Language (GML), a new XML file type designed for archiving graffiti tags. The F.A.T. (Free Art & Technology) group has been standardizing open source graffiti software packages like Graffiti Analysis, Laser Tag, Eyewriter, and others, so that they will all be GML compliant.
The groups mission statement? “A new digital standard for tomorrow’s vandals.” Well, now some robot geeks at the CMU Studio for Creative Inquiry and the CMU Digital Fabrication Laboratory hacked an ABB 4400 series robot to paint graffiti on the walls.

depriving yet another art of all creativity or autonomy. hate it. the only posers to jump on this bandwagon will be the same ones that go home and log on to their second life dreaming of the day they don’t have to jerk off into a tube sock. Read Ray Kurzweil. This is insulting. impostors.
