Robot Polar Bears Replace Real Bears
November 23rd, 2009
Instead of replacing the St. Louis Zoo’s deceased polar bears with live ones, zoo officials have put robots up in their place. Someone should tell them that this defeats the entire purpose of a Zoo. I mean, if I want to see robot animals, I’ll read Botropolis. When I go to a zoo, I expect to see live animals in captivity, so I can point and laugh and say haha I remain free while you are a prisoner.
Anyhow, this may be the beginning of something I’ve seen coming for some time. This could be the first step toward completely robotic zoos. Future places where you can watch fake animals and marvel at everything endangered. It will be a long time before we see such a thing, but it will happen.
The robot polar bears here are part of the zoo’s holiday exhibit.
