RIBA Robot Nurse Is A Real Care Bear

The future is full of humans who just want to lie down and rest, but can’t because robots randomly pick them up in order to demonstrate their dominance. And the future begins now. Researchers from Japan’s Institute of Physical and Chemical Research (RIKEN) and Tokai Rubber Industries, Ltd. have developed RIBA – “Robot for Interactive Body Assistance,”. RIBA will help lift patients up to 61kg from out of their beds and wheelchairs.
For some reason they decided to make it’s form that of a tubby bear. It has a soft skin of lightweight urethane foam, with integrated tactile sensors and flexible arms to facilitate the lifting of humans. It also sports omni-directional wheels for mobility and can recognize faces and voices as well as respond to vocal commands. Video below.
