Toyota’s Running Humanoid Robot
July 23rd, 2009

We all love Honda’s ASIMO humanoid robot, who can walk and run with the best of them. But Asimo may have some competition from Toyota. Even though Toyota entered the game much later than Honda, they are making some great strides. No pun intended.

Toyota’s most recent humanoid robot prototype is 130cm tall and weighs 50Kgr. Its legs have 7 degrees of freedom and it can handle running at an average speed of 7 km/h. ASIMO’s maximum speed is 6km/h. Toyota researchers had to develop new real-time methods for balance control, which make it possible for the robot to remain balanced when an external force such as a push from a human is applied during motion.

Great. Now you can no longer knock them on their metal ass.

Awesome! This could help many in wheelchairs, and the aged. People will wine and cry about ’skynet’ etc. but why, your already rats on a wheel, can anyone ever see anything positive ever?
