RiSE V3 Climbs Vertical Structures
May 13th, 2009

The RiSE V3 is being showcased at the International Conference on robotics and Automation (ICRA 2009) Japan. RiSE V3 is a bot that is capable of scurrying along the ground and climbing vertical structures with equal ease.

It’s the first robot to achieve a vertical climbing speed of 21 centimeters per second. This is largely due to the surgical needles which function as claws and dig into the vertical surfaces, helping it grip and climb quickly. The bot was developed by researchers at the University of Pennsylvania.

RiSE V3 could get work in surveillance or search and rescue operations.
