iRobot’s Military Ember Bots
May 18th, 2009

Meet the Ember microbot. It’s not as tiny as DARPA hoped. They were hoping for a bot little bigger than a pack of cards, but shrinking a Packbot down to paperback size proved difficult enough. The bot’s primary function is to set up a roving military network on the battlefield.
With an integrated webcam and extension via USB and SDIO, who knows what kind of functionality they’ll provide. They hope to get these down to $100 or less. Then civilians everywhere will have them and we will all be spying on each other.
