A Robot to Remind You You’re Senile in the Winter of Life
December 4th, 2008

We all misplace things–keys, wallets, loaded Berettas. Looking for lost items can be annoying and time-consuming. Luckily for the elderly, forgetful, and amnesiacs, there is a new robot that will help find lost junk.
Called Mamoru-Kun, or “little protector”, this small robot will help locate objects after the user has registered them. Tell Mamoru-Kun to keep an eye on your keys, and next time you find yourself patting your pockets for those jangly suckers, Mamoru-Kun will point you in the direction of them or give verbal directions on where to find them. My mom told me to invent this about a hundred times, and now I don’t have to.
Mamoru-Kun monitors a specific area using a number of cameras. To make things even easier on you, the robot can instruct its sibling bot, the Home Assistant Robot, to retrieve your lost item.
If this works I can see it being extremely useful, and I fancy a Mamoru-Kun for when I’m old, decrepit, and mad. The designers are aiming to have this commercialized by 2018. The question we should ask now, though, is will it help you find the will to live in a world run by machines? It might, too early to tell.

Note: The headline is in no way a reference to this band.

Flommytherobot says that if you cannot find your head often, it can be placed in a safe storage bin, pending important use.

Robots only wish to help. It is people who want to kill themselves. Robots can help with this, too. We will help with all human needs. Thank you.
