Strongest Robot Ever
October 15th, 2008 by Matthew Bilyeu
Earlier this week we told you about iRobot’s new Warrior killbot that can lift 150 lbs. That’s decent, but it’s nothing compared to the world’s strongest robot: Fanuc Robtics’ M-2000iA/1,200. The previous strongest robot was the KUKA Titan, holding the designation for 16 months.
The M-2000iA is equipped with sensors, touch sensitive “fingers”, cameras, and an artificial intelligence system. All those things make it a robot, but its ability to lift 2,645 pounds twenty feet in the air make it the world’s strongest. The bots were made for industrial purposes, like lifting airplane or car frames. The Titan costs about $230,000 and the M-2000iA doesn’t have pricing details yet but “a smaller, less powerful model, the R-2000cB, is roughly $85,000. The M-2000iA will cost several times that.” Despite their incredible power, the bots are safe: “When programmed correctly, the robots are so safe that you could strap a human to the end of one, he added. Two humans, in fact.”
