At first I thought this was in Japan since they have all the cool stuff, but this is actually from a Chicago McDonald’s. They make it easy to know if they are still serving Egg McMuffins or if you are out of luck.
Every morning at this McDonald’s across from Wrigley Field, a giant robot egg cracks open to reveal a yolk that says “Fresh Eggs Daily.” When breakfast time is over, it closes until the next morning.
But what the hell is a “psychologically inspired object recognition system”? It’s the idea of giving robots and other mechanical creatures the ability to see objects the way humans do and make judgments based on what they see. Basically, the military wants bots that have something similar to spatial memory, which would let them “mentally rotate objects in order to match the object to different representations.”
Yeah, this is probably not the smartest thing in the world to do. Listen, the smarter we make ‘em, the quicker I get a robot fist through my spleen just for running this here site. Though I recognize that it will come to pass one day, I’d like to avoid that for as long as possible.
Humanoid bots are getting even more super impressive as each day goes by. This video shows the Darmstadt Dribblers team in action at the recent 2008 Robocup. Thing is, they’re really playing like a soccer team, just well, a lot slower. This is the first year that three-on-three playing has taken place, using info exchange over Wi-Fi. You just have to watch. So watch.
