Robotic Copycat Arm: Stop Copying Me
July 1st, 2008

Copycat
This copycat arm was developed by a group of researchers at the University of Tsukub. It uses a high-speed camera to monitor your movements, which are then instantly and creepily repeated by the robot arm. In the future, it’s their hope that the same system could be used as a computer interface, which they think will eliminate the need for a mouse and keyboard. No video unfortunately, but I’d love to see it throw down some gang signs.

Barney
Ever wonder what lurks within that cute cuddly robot? I bet there’s a surprise inside. There is. Basically once you see inside, it just gets even more creepy. Artist Matt Kirkland has taken it upon himself to play operation and he’s actually opened up 25 toy robots and exposed their inner workings for all to see. Take this Barney for instance. Who would have expected a black Darth Vader version beneath? Hit the link for a lot more.

Helicopter Robots Work As A Team

Collaborate to exterminate
Here’s an important first. The Laboratory for Autonomous Flying Robots at the Berlin Institute of Technology has used three autonomous helicopters to transport a load together. They cooperated without any human intervention at all as a team. That’s quite an achievement for collaborative robots. It won’t be long before robots are working in hordes to erect buildings or even better clean the highway, and yes teamwork is essential in killing our species.

Telexistence Closer To Reality
July 1st, 2008

Maybe they\'ll do our bidding after all.
Ever wanted to be sitting in your home and be able to put on a helmet and be in Jamaica? Researchers are working on just that thing. Telexistence is being in two places at one time (Kinda like God) and at the same time having real-time sensations and being able to interact with your surroundings. Telesar is a prototype robot that brings it closer to reality. Telesar could get groceries for you, and go into the office to get the brief case you left there. You basically just sit back and drive it and it’s like you are there.
