iRobot, maker of the Packbot and the Roomba vacuum cleaners, was awarded a contract by the Pentagon to build a robot that can fit under doors and through other small openings. MIT and Harvard will work with iRobot on what they’re calling the Chembots project, which is run by DARPA.
“During military operations it can be important to gain covert access to denied or hostile space. Unmanned platforms such as mechanical robots are of limited effectiveness if the only available points of entry are small openings,” Mitchell Zakin, the Darpa program manager says. “We believe that a new class of soft, flexible, meso-scale mobile objects that can identify and maneuver through openings smaller than their dimensions to perform various tasks will be quite valuable in many missions.”
In other words, morphing shapeshifting nightmares that can enter your mouth and sing a sweet goodbye lullaby to your soul.

We knew it had to happen sooner or later. And it will happen often from here on out. Geeks love LEGO and we also love adorable robots. Building a LEGO Wall-E is serious business too. Joe Meno, editor of Brickjournal magazine, took three months planning it and the end result is a beautiful thing to behold. The end result is a Lego robot with a moving neck and arms, plus rolling treads. Wall-E was cute already. In Lego form he’s twice as awesome. But what about Eve?

Temuzatsuku is a female robot police women. Mostly because they can dress her up as one. She’s a non-threatening cop who doesn’t even carry a gun. Local police have found her to be an effective tool in educating kids against street crime. Temuzatsuku has already been inducted into the force as she was given an appointment book for one day. Not since Angie Dickinson in the TV show Police Woman, or perhaps Cagney and Lacey, has a female cop risen so high so fast.
